Panning
I enjoy capturing motion using the panning technique. Subjects of interest include bicycles, motorcycles, cars, birds and people. Now and then, I am asked, how do I do it?
Settings
Almost invariably, I put my camera in shutter speed priority, often going with a shutter speed between 1/10 and 1/50. Oh, let’s not forget to set the camera in burst of continuous shooting mode.
Composition
Yes, composition matters. While I may randomly photographing moving people by panning anywhere, I prefer to do so at locations with picturesque background. When I see a storefront with interesting colors or lights, my camera comes out of my backpack as I wait for a bicycle to roll by.
